NEW Misinformation Infographic on Canadian Parents’ Experiences With Sexual Health Misinformation

As part of our ongoing misinformation project, SIECCAN is excited to share a NEW infographic based on a national survey of more than 2,000 Canadian parents. 📢📊
Parents told us they are seeing sexual health misinformation everywhere. In fact, 83 percent reported coming across misleading or inaccurate information about sexual health or sexual health education, especially on social media and mainstream news.
This misinformation matters. About one in five parents said it made them trust sexual health information less or reduced their confidence in educators. Many parents also said they want more support with identifying credible information and helping their children do the same.

NOUVELLE infographie sur la mésinformation en santé sexuelle chez les parents au Canada
Dans le cadre de notre projet sur la mésinformation, le CIÉSCAN est heureux de présenter une nouvelle infographie qui résume les résultats d’un sondage national réalisé auprès de plus de 2 000 parents. 📢📊
Les parents nous ont indiqué qu’ils rencontrent souvent de la mésinformation en santé sexuelle. En fait, 83 pour cent ont déjà vu du contenu trompeur ou inexact au sujet de la santé sexuelle ou de l’éducation à la sexualité, surtout sur les médias sociaux et dans les médias traditionnels.
Cette réalité a des effets importants. Environ un parent sur cinq a mentionné que la mésinformation a diminué sa confiance envers l’information en santé sexuelle ou envers les éducateur·trice·s en milieu scolaire. Plusieurs parents aimeraient aussi recevoir plus de soutien pour repérer des sources d’information fiables et exactes, et pour aider leurs enfants à faire de même.
