Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence
Resources for Ontario educators and youth

1 in 3 Canadian youth have experienced some form of TFSV, such as: receiving unwanted sexual images, receiving unwanted videos or pornography, or experiencing online sexual harassment
Nearly 80% of victims of online sexual offences are girls and young women
Over half of Ontario students do not think topics about sexuality, communication, and/or technology are adequately covered in sexual health education
Ontario educators lack the information, resources, and training to recognize TFSV and the appropriate actions to take when TFSV is disclosed by students
(Benkirane, 2025)

Technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV) is a pervasive form of gender-based violence impacting Ontario youth, yet it often goes unreported.
Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence (TFSV) refers to a range of sexually abusive or violent behaviours perpetrated with the aid of information and/or communication technologies, such as online sexual extortion (“sextortion”), non-consensual intimate image sharing, online sexual harassment, cyberstalking, non-consensual AI-generated sexual images (“sexual deepfakes”) and online grooming (adults building manipulative relationships with minors over the Internet with the intent to sexually abuse them).
SIECCAN’s project titled “The Prevention of Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence: Increasing the Capacity of Ontario Health Educators to Deliver Effective Education to Youth” will equip educators with the tools to help youth identify the different forms of TFSV and strategies to deploy if youth have been targeted.

Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services through Ontario’s Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence.
